Hard To Get Hired
Hard to Get Hired – Career expert Ford R. Myers shares some special strategies for trying to land a job in today’s economy.
Hard to Get Hired?
Angela Miles:
Hard to Get Hired? Jobs are hard to land in some sectors of the economy. Joining us is Ford Myers, author of the book, “Get The Job You Want, Even When No One’s Hiring.” Good to have you on the show.
Ford Myers:
Thank you for having me!
Angela Miles:
Now, you believe all people need some special strategies in this tough area of trying to land a job. What are some of those strategies?
Ford Myers:
Well, one strategy, for example, is to get help. Get some assistance to help you with your job search. Avoid being just one resume in the stack of resumes. Instead, use networking as your primary source of finding new opportunities. I think people can also pursue a temporary, part-time or contract position while they’re looking for that full-time opportunity. These are just a couple of strategies that my clients have been able to employ very successfully.
Angela Miles:
I would love to hear something more out-of-the-box from you. What else would you do?
Ford Myers:
Well, I have my clients sit down and do a budget; a budget of time, and a budget of money. You see, people are kind of panicked in this job market. And when they do a full analysis, it can give them peace of mind and provide a plan to follow.
Angela Miles:
I like that. What are some big trends that you’re seeing in hiring?
Ford Myers:
One of the biggest trends, of course, is that employers are moving very slowly. They’re not reacting or making decisions as quickly as the candidates might want. And unfortunately, this is not about the candidate. It’s about the economy. It’s about the employers. So people need to be a lot more patient in today’s world.
Angela Miles:
I’m guessing some of our viewers out there might have been looking for jobs for six months or longer. What would be your advice to those people?
Ford Myers:
I think those people need to regroup. They need to take a good, hard look in the mirror and ask themselves, “What might I be doing wrong? Maybe I need to change my image; the way I present myself. Maybe I need to update my documents. Maybe I need to get some help and employ new strategies. Maybe I need to network with different kinds of people.” So, there are all kinds of adjustments that should be made at that point.
Angela Miles:
Well, thank you for coming on the show this morning. That was Ford Myers, author of the book, “Get The Job You Want, Even When No One’s Hiring.” Thank you again.
Ford Myers:
And thank you so much!
